Laboratories

The department has various laboratories (Electronics, Computer, Communication, Electric Machines, Instrumentation, High Voltage and Lighting Lab), for the laboratory and project works of the students.

Communication lab: This laboratory is designed to carry out the undergraduate experiments and project works that are related to Analog and Digital Communication Systems, Microwave systems, Antennas and Propagation, Switching Systems, Optical Fiber Communication etc. The laboratory currently has workstations each equipped with signal generator, laboratory power supply, and oscilloscope. Spectrum analyzers with measurement range up to 2.7 GHz are also available in the laboratory. Students can perform experiments on microwave experiment kits, antenna trainer, and analog and digital communication systems modules. Laboratory exercises are complemented with computations and simulations of communication systems on computers as well.

Computer lab: This laboratory is designed to carry out the laboratory and project works which need computer programming and simulations. The laboratory is generally used by the undergraduate students for simulation, programming, and report-presentation preparation. The laboratory is equipped with the latest computers. Students use these computers for computer interfacing and design of computer based systems in project works. In addition, training on microprocessors using microprocessor kits is provided.

Electronics Lab: This laboratory is designed to facilitate the general electronics engineering experiments and project works by the undergraduate students. There are two electronics laboratory in the department. One is used exclusively for the laboratory purposes while the other one is used for project works. The laboratory has workstations each equipped with signal generator, laboratory power supply, and oscilloscope. Most of the general purpose electronic components are kept in the stock and are issued as per the need of students. Both digital and analog circuit experiments can be performed in the laboratory. The students generally test circuits on breadboards. Circuits for projects are made on printed circuit boards (PCB) using PCB making facility available in the laboratory.

Instrumentation and Control lab: This laboratory is designed to carry out the instrumentation and control engineering laboratory experiment by the undergraduate students. This is equipped with sophisticated control systems, digital oscilloscopes, 20 MHz function generators, machinery tools and wide range of measuring instruments. This lab also houses the Lighting Lab. Machine Lab:The Machines lab of the department has various moderate sized motors, generators, transformers, variable power supplies, and other power components. Experiments related to induction, DC, and synchronous machines can be conveniently performed in the laboratory. In addition, a section of the laboratory consists of modules for power electronics and control experiment. Few switchgear and protection components are also available for reinforcement of understanding in switchgear and protection.

High Voltage Lab: The High Voltage Laboratory was designed and constructed in cooperation with NTNU, Norway. The major system in the laboratory comprises of High Voltage Construction Kit from Haefely Test AG, Switzerland. The kit components are very versatile and a number of test configurations can be used. Test configurations allow generation of AC voltage up to 100kV, DC voltages up to 140kV and impulse voltages up to 140kV, with different power output ratings. A special HV testing room with needed screening and grounding has been constructed. The laboratory is being used for undergraduate and graduate experiments and project/research works.

Lighting Lab: The Lighting lab is developed for design and testing of different types of luminaries. The lab is being used for undergraduate, graduate and PhD research works.
